Freedom of Information - Publication Scheme

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives an individual a general right of access to all types of recorded information held and reasons for decisions made by public authorities. It is designed to promote greater accountability and openness by public authorities for their communities and residents. The individual's right to request information comes into force in January 2005.

As part of the lead up to 2005, local authorities including Shropshire County Council are required to produce a Publication Scheme. A Publication Scheme sets out the classes of information the Authority routinely publishes, the form in which the information is published and details of any charges.

Shropshire County Council's Publication Scheme was approved by the Information Commissioner's office in February 2003.
