Switch on Shropshire has established 35 community 'Broadplaces' in Shropshire. The SOS project ended in March 2007, so is unable to set up any new Broadplaces. However, the Broadplaces are still running. More information can be found at www.shropshirebroadplaces.org.uk
The Community part of the Switch on Shropshire Project was all about helping communities to access Broadband and experience the benefits it can provide to individuals and groups in rural areas.

Shropshire is a beautiful county because it is so rural, but that also brings disadvantages where technology is concerned. It is often difficult for people in remote rural areas to have the same access to technology as their more urban relatives.
| If you have no experience of how Broadband works how can you possibly know if it has any benefits to you in your work, social or family life? |
|
Well, the Switch on Shropshire project was able, through its Community programme, to provide local village halls and community centres in the eligible areas of Shropshire with funding to support the installation of a broadband facility and computers for community use. These centres are called Broadplaces.
 | Community uses of Broadplaces include: | |
|
 |
- Learning & Training
- Searching for jobs and courses
- Family Trees & local history
- Buying online
- Keeping in touch with overseas friends and relatives
- Leisure interests
- Booking holidays & travel
