Title: World War II Event

Date:Saturday 14th May & Sunday 15th May 2005

Location:Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury

Details

One of the great houses of the Midlands, Attingham Park is a magnificent Regency house, set in a landscaped deer park. This site was an American air base during the war and has strong links still with the USA. The house was used to evacuate pupils from Edgbaston school.

First aid demonstrations with the British Red Cross, war time re-enactments, gun emplacements and camping demonstrations are just some of the activities that will set the scene for the World War II at Attingham Park.

Attingham Park was used as an American air base during the war and as part of the event Switch on Shropshire will be linking up with ex US serviceman who were based at Attingham, via Satellite. The National Trust is now looking for anyone who has memories of Attingham during the war to come along and record their memories for the BBC's 'People War' campaign.

If you can contribute with information about the above sites please call Susie Harding at the National Trust on 01743 708183 or just come along and enjoy yourselves. Entry to all of these properties is free.
